13.11.2017 Physical Accessibility to Public Places for Persons with Disabilities

Aiming to fulfill requirements of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the city of Dushanbe, Tajikistan, has achieved complete modification of the architecture of five public buildings and continued implementation of a new training programme “On Tajikistan Standards for accessibility to buildings and constructions for Persons with Disabilities”. Accessibility trainings were organized by UNDP in close cooperation with the Committee on Construction and Architecture under the Government of RT, the Research Institute for Construction and Architecture and Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre  with USDOS  support. In 2017 two accessibility trainings were organized in Kurgan-Tube and Kulyab for more than 40 local architects and designers. In total, from beginning of this training programme more than 120 local architects and designers from Dushanbe, Sugd and Khatlon oblasts, GBAO and Rasht valley benefited from these trainings.

Capacity building workshops on Integrated Approach to Victim Assistance for staff of district departments of social protection completed  

In 2017 more than 120 staff from districts departments of social protection and landmine survivors participated in the regional workshops devoted to the Integrated Approach to Victim Assistance, issues of Tajikistan joining UN the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and Tajik legislation on social protection of persons with disabilities (PWDs) including landmine victims.  Workshops were organized in four regional centers of Tajikistan by the Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre (TNMAC) with project “Support to Tajikistan Mine Action Programme” of UNDP in the frameworks of Victim Assistance component of Tajikistan Mine Action Programme


25.08.2017 Summer Leadership Workshop for Mine Survivors Completed
In 2017 the Summer Leadership Workshop was organized by Governmental organization “Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre” (TNMAC) in sanatorium “Bahoriston” in Sugd oblast for 69 landmine/ERW survivors from 6 till 20 August 2017.  US based NGO “Polus Center” and UNDP provided technical support to TNMAC for organizing Summer Rehabilitation Workshop in the new format aimed to increase landmine survivors’ skills and knowledge. Along with rest, physical and psychological rehabilitation the Workshop participants were provided with the training on leadership, team building, wheelchairs, disability models, Concept of independent life, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities etc.

 Physical Accessibility to Public Places for Persons with Disabilities

A new focus of the Victim Assistance Pillar within the Tajikistan Mine Action Programme is the improvement of accessibility of public buildings for Persons with Disabilities. Supported by the US Department of State, the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) and Clear Path International (CPI) will implement a one-year project, which is directed at raising the awareness of the challenges of accessibility for PWDs in Tajikistan by working on national standards.

31.10.2012 Annual Rehabilitation Camp for Mine Survivors Completed

This year's Summer Camp for Tajik Mine Victims has taken place in the Sanatorium of “Sang-chashma”, Almosi village. The Opening Ceremony was held on Wednesday 3rd October with the presence of the conveners and all the participants.

The Tajikistan Mine Action Centre (TMAC) organized a series of round tables in order to advocate the country’s accession and ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

07.06.2012 TMAC Victim Assistance Team Attends Intersessional Meeting in Geneva

The Tajikistan Mine Action Centre sent its Victim Assistance team to the intersessional meeting of States Parties to the Ottawa convention, held in Geneva (Switzerland) from 21st to 25th May 2012.

The TMAC Victim Assistance unit undertook a field trip to the Rasht Valley region, in order to update Tajikistan’s countrywide database on mine/UXO victims.

In the 4th of April, the Tajik Mine Action Centre (TMAC) organized the celebration of the International Mine Action Day, dedicated to the awareness of the hazard of landmines in the country.

09.03.2012 TMAC participates in the Conference on Disability-Inclusive MDGs and Aid Effectiveness

The VA Officer of TMAC, Reykhan Muminova, participated in the UNESCAP and Leonard Cheshire Disability Conference on Disability-Inclusive MDGs and Aid Effectiveness, held in the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok (Thailand) on 14-16 March 2012.

The Tajikistan Mine Action Center coordinates all mine action related projects in the country in order to ensure Tajikistan’s compliance with the requirements under the Ottawa treaty, which was ratified by Tajikistan in 1999. (.....)

What we do?

The legal framework for the Tajikistan mine action programme rests on the following instruments: the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel (AP) Mines and on their Destruction from 18th of September 1997 (the Ottawa Convention) and the Protocols II and V to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) (.....)
