17.05.2012 TMAC IMSMA Officer Participates in IMSMA NG Seminar in Sweden

The IMSMA Officer of TMAC, Abdulmain Karimov, has participated in the Information Management and IMSMA NG Administrator Level 1 & 2 course in Sando, Sweden, organized by MSB (Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency) and conducted by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian De-mining (GICHD).

10.05.2012 Continued Efforts for Mine Risk Education in the Tajik-Afghan Border Regions

The volunteers of the Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan (RCST) continue their Mine Risk Education projects during this year. Local branches of Red Crescent committees show a great effort in educating communities in seven border districts on the hazards that are posed by landmines on the Tajik-Afghan border

The TMAC Victim Assistance unit undertook a field trip to the Rasht Valley region, in order to update Tajikistan’s countrywide database on mine/UXO victims.

What is TMAC?

The Tajikistan Mine Action Center coordinates all mine action related projects in the country in order to ensure Tajikistan’s compliance with the requirements under the Ottawa treaty, which was ratified by Tajikistan in 1999. (.....)

What we do?

The legal framework for the Tajikistan mine action programme rests on the following instruments: the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel (AP) Mines and on their Destruction from 18th of September 1997 (the Ottawa Convention) and the Protocols II and V to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) (.....)

Mine Risk Education – Front Page 

Tajikistan is one of 156 countries that implements Mine Risk Education as a Mine Action pillar to reduce land mine hazards and the number of casualties among the population living within mine-affected areas. (.....)

Advocacy

TMAC works with its national and international partners to achieve a mine-free Tajikistan and to eliminate the disastrous consequences of landmines, cluster bombs and other explosive remnants of war on civilian communities. (.....)

Stockpile destruction

In accordance with Article 5 of Ottawa Convention each state party shall to undertake to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in mined areas under its jurisdiction or control, as soon as possible but not later than ten years after the entry into force of this Convention for that State Party. (.....)
