Mine Clearance

The TMAC Process Map (TPM) 1.03 provides a description of the process applied within a hazard area (CHA or DHA) in order to define the hazard boundary more clearly (CHA conversion to a DHA) or to achieve a full and final release of the land safely, confidently and effectively.

Application of this process ensures that:

Field operations are rigorously planned and that plans are verified and agreed by authorized TMAC representatives
Decisions about the application of technical survey and clearance techniques and methodologies within the area are based on sound evidence and reasoning
All reasonable efforts will be applied to the area prior to release
The process will be fully documented

Whenever a mine is found during a full processing task (combining TS and clearance) the processing method shall switch from TS to clearance in the vicinity of the mine. Clearance shall continue to a distance from the mine specified in the most up-to-date version of the SIP. During the on-going review process new information, which may influence decisions about the required clearance radius or box size around a mine, shall be given particular consideration.

Where a mine is found during clearance operations, clearance shall continue in the vicinity of the newly found mine in accordance with the distance specified in the SIP. Where a non-mine hazard item is found during TS the site manager, in agreement with TMAC QA, shall decide whether a switch to clearance is required. A clear distinction should be drawn between a victim operated mine hazard and more general explosive items which may be better dealt with through a Battle Area Clearance (BAC) process.
