10.04.2014 TAJIKISTAN CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR MINE AWARENESS AND ASSISTANCE IN MINE ACTION

This year, commemoration of Mine Action Day will be facilitated by the newly-established Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre (TNMAC). The TNMAC received its official status in January 2014 by decree of the President of the Republic Tajikistan. 

19.03.2014 Tajikistan to ensure the wellbeing of landmine survivors in the context of broader disability efforts

Dushanbe and Geneva, 17 March 2014-Tajikistan, one of 28 States Parties of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention that is responsible for significant number of landmine survivors, is taking stock of efforts to guarantee the rights of persons with disabilities, including landmine survivors, at a two-day workshop in Dushanbe.

26.11.2013 “10 Years Anniversary of Tajikistan Mine Action Programme”

Mines and explosive remnants of war pose a serious threat to the safety, health and lives of the civilian population or hinder socio -economic development of Tajikistan.  Anti-personnel landmines have caused death and incredible pain and permanent disabilities to hundreds victims, principally civilians who got injured during the 1990s in the Civil War but also along the Uzbek border when entering the previously safe border area.   Tajikistan , as mine affected country, acceded to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (also known as the Ottawa Convention) in 1999 and became a State Party in the year 2000.  Additionally, Tajikistan also lies in the path of accession to the Convention on the Prohibition of cluster munitions and to the UN Conventions on rights of persons with disabilities.

19.09.2013 Tajikistan takes steps to finalize mine clearance operations
Dushanbe and Geneva 17 September2013 –Tajik government officials and United Nations’and other international experts are meeting at a European Union sponsored workshop to set priorities for Tajikistan to comply with its mine clearance obligation acquired under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, or Ottawa Convention.

What is TMAC?

The Tajikistan Mine Action Center coordinates all mine action related projects in the country in order to ensure Tajikistan’s compliance with the requirements under the Ottawa treaty, which was ratified by Tajikistan in 1999. (.....)

What we do?

The legal framework for the Tajikistan mine action programme rests on the following instruments: the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel (AP) Mines and on their Destruction from 18th of September 1997 (the Ottawa Convention) and the Protocols II and V to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) (.....)
