05.04.2015 Initiative of Tajikistan on Releasing Land from Mines and Advocacy against Landmines

On April 4, 2015 Tajikistan National Mine Action Center with assistance of UNDP Project “Support to Tajikistan Mine Action Program” celebrated the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action in its newly opened office, located at 121, Ayni Street. 

17.10.2014 Live in Community Free of Unexploded Ordnances

In an effort to help address the consequences of the unexploded ordnances in 5 villages of jamoat Balkhobi the UNDP/STMAP MRE coordinating pillar held two-days field visits on organizing meetings in 5 schools, distribution of materials and drawing lessons in September 26-27, 2014. Jamoat Balkhobi is, as a result of seven decades of the existence the trainings polygon by 201 Russian military base and the most severely affected by different unexploded ordnances (UXO). UXO risk education is the first step to enable community and schools of the jamoat Balkhobi to promote civil-military cooperation with 201 Russian military base. The aim of "UXO awareness campaign" was to modify the behavior of children so that the presence of UXO in the area becomes less deadly”.

16.10.2014 WE LOVE LIFE: Village Children Support the Communities Free of Unexploded Ordnances


From September 26 to 27 the schoolchildren of 5 villages’ schools participated in drawing activities to demonstrate their supportive attitude to live in the communities free of hazard by unexploded ordnances (UXO). They drew their thoughts, feelings and behavior through drawings and safe messages to prevent children and adult casualties that come from the leftovers after the military trainings held by 201 Russian military base located in Momirak area not far from the Kulyab town. The children represented school # 27 in village Turkoni, school # 38 in village Balkhobi, school # 20 in village Momirak, school # 39 in village Tuto and school # 52 in village Tebalay of jamoat Balkhobi, Muminobod district, Khatlon region.

18.06.2014 ROUND TABLE ON MINE AND UNEXPOLDED ORDNANCE RISK EDUCATION

On 18th of June, 2014 the first round table organized by contribution of the UNDP/Support to Tajik Mine Action Program and assistance to enhance the role of Tajik National Mine Action Center on its effective initiative to coordinate and manage the UXO risk education in affected villages by unexploded ordnances (UXO) located around the military polygon of the Russian Federation based in south of Tajikistan. The round table brought together the TNMAC management unit, representative from 201-Russian Military Base, national stakeholders, ICRC and Red Crescent Society, districts governmental officials, communities and villages leaders, women community councils, members of the families of UXO victims, districts education departments, village teachers and districts Committees of Emergency Situations and public organization with the aim to raise their attention to the issues related to the UXO left after the military trainings by polygon.

12.05.2014 Serena Hotel Regional ERW and Mine Action Senior Managers’ Training Course -Tajikistan 2014

The month of May was a significant period in the history of Mine Action in Tajikistan. The Tajikistan Republic as a State Party to the Ottawa Convention was selected to conduct the Regional Senior Managers' Course on 12-30 May 2014. The initiator of this important event was the Tajik National Mine Action Centre (TNMAC). The National Centre is a Governmental structure and responsible for all mine action related issues in Tajikistan, and also the executive authority of the Commission on the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law (CIIHL) in the country.

What is TMAC?

The Tajikistan Mine Action Center coordinates all mine action related projects in the country in order to ensure Tajikistan’s compliance with the requirements under the Ottawa treaty, which was ratified by Tajikistan in 1999. (.....)

What we do?

The legal framework for the Tajikistan mine action programme rests on the following instruments: the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel (AP) Mines and on their Destruction from 18th of September 1997 (the Ottawa Convention) and the Protocols II and V to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) (.....)
