Name: Rahim Bandihudoev                             Age: 18                                                                 From: Vanj District                                               Date of Accident: 3.10.2005

I’ll never forget that day…Together with two friends, I went to graze our herd. It was a beautiful sunny day, around lunch time, but it was the month of Ramadan so we were fasting.

I remember the sun shining so brightly that it was hurting my eyes.  I was chatting with my friends and in one second, I heard a very loud bang.  I immediately fell on my back.  At first I didn’t understand what had happened.  I was surprised of a very strong burning smell.  I will never forget that smell.  I tried to get up but I couldn’t.  I looked down and to my amazement, my right foot wasn’t there!  There was blood everywhere.  My leg was bleeding heavily.  My whole body was covered in black gunpowder.

A soldier was serving in his post nearby.  He came to my rescue and together with my friends stopped the bleeding.  They took me to the Hospital.  I was there for two weeks.  I was crying most of the time there.  I had unbearable pain.  I could not believe I had lost my right foot.

After being discharging from the hospital I could not sleep.  I had nightmares about the mine blast and amputation almost every night. I did not want to see or talk to anybody. I could not move and was afraid that from now on I can never move again.

After obtaining physiotherapy treatment in the hospital and fitting prosthesis in Orthopedic Centre I learned to walk again and have a new friend.  Another Landmine Survivor!

I want to become a singer.  I want to sign at weddings and make enough money to live, Enshallah!
