The Initiative of TMAC in Facilitation of the
Regional Co-operation in Mine Action
Tajik Mine Action Centre (TMAC) represented the
regional Conference that conducted in Dushanbe,
Tajikistan from 16 to 18 November, 2009. The
conference was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of Tajikistan and co-hosted by Organization
for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE Office
in Tajikistan).
The regional conference supported the Facilitation
of Central Asian Regional Cooperation in Mine Action
and the main purpose is to elicit consultations with
relevant OSCE participating states in Central Asia,
and in Afghanistan, resulting in a consensus
supporting the establishment of regional cooperation
mechanism between these states in the field of mine
action. The objective of this conference are for
countries in Central Asia and Afghanistan to present
the scale and nature of the problem, needs and their
own capacities addressing the landmines, explosive
remnants of war and other related threats with
implication of regional scale.
TMAC had a presentation on
its progress in the field of mine action in
Tajikistan and called the neighbour countries to
enhance the possibility for regional cooperation and
develop the initiatives in the process of regional
cooperation dialogue. Taking into consideration the
importance of this Conference TMAC mentioned about
the efforts to have long-term mine action program.
In accordance with this
The Request for Extension the demining
again has been informed the guests of the Conference
with the purpose to finish demining completely in
Tajikistan it is necessary to have additional 9
years and 9 months. And, we hope that on the
upcoming Second Review Convention held in Colombia,
the presented issue will be approved and our country
will also have additional opportunity, in the
framework of international cooperation, complete the
cleaning of fields which are under mine risk during
the requested new deadline.
About the role and position of the TMAC in Central
Asia the
following representatives of the countries of the
Central Asia and Afghanistan and the states
participating at the conference included USA,
Germany, France, Russian Federation and Slovenia,
and the European Commission, participating
organizations included the Geneva International
Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), the Swiss
Demining Foundation (FSD), Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA),
Central Asia Regional Information and Coordination
Centre (CARICC), the Marshall Centre, the OSCE, the
ITF, Mine Action Coordination Centre Afghanistan,
United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC),
United Nation Development Program (UNDP), United
Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for
Central Asia (UNRCCA), EU Border Management
Programme for Central Asia (BOMCA), the
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC),
Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), and
a number of local non-governmental organizations and
institutions obtained the significant information.
