Fourth Mine Action Day to be celebrated at Tajikistan Mine Action Centre

 

In Dushanbe, the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan will be celebrated International Mine Action Day in a fourth time. The Official opening will be on 3rd of April, 2009 in the capital of Tajikistan Republic. The High Representatives of the UNDP/Tajikistan, the Ambassador of the OSCE in Dushanbe, Officials of the Commission on Implementation International Humanitarian Law (CIIHL) under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Ministries, Embassies, non-governmental organizations and some landmine survivors from the remote areas of the country will take part.

This Day is a reminder that people of Tajikistan, namely population of 24 dictricts still live in fear of landmines, explosive remnants of war and cluster munitions. Their hazards make difficult the livelihoods and block access to land, plantation, gardening, pasture’s paths, grass collection and basic services.

We shouldn’t forget that this Day is also an occasion to involve the attention of the Tajik Community to make common efforts on fighting the scourge of landmines, explosive remnants of war and cluster bombs. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of all significant Donors – UNDP, OSCE, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Canada, German, Belgium, Sweden, Japan, ICRC, United Kingdom of the Great Britain, US Colleage, ICBL - we have seen real achievements in our mine action efforts.

The main events of the Mine Action in Dushanbe will be opening the Exhibition on accessed achievement by Mine Action in Tajikistan that demonstrated on description of all Programs, mainly, Mine Clearance, Mine Victim, Assistance, and Mine Risk Education. Display of landmines and UXOs will be set up in the hall and demonstration of the dog deminers and deminers with the uniform will rich the area of the Mine Action Exhibition.

Invitation of some Landmine Survivors that they will show the effectiveness of the small grant fundraising on their self-development and impact of provided rehabilitation by TMAC in last years. Involvement of wide participation by National Companies of Tajikistan Mass Media and they announce the country commemoration of the Day. Organisation of the Drawing Corner by the students of Dushanbe Art College and their ready products will be demonstrated on the issue Mine Action. Besides, events in 22 districts will be arranged by 66 MRE Volunteers on raising attitude to support progress of the Mine Action in Tajikistan. The Articles written by TMAC Program Staff will be issued through world and country mine action websites, republican papers. Radio Broadcasting will be aired the process of the Mine Action Day. Districts journalists will be tasked to provide articles in the local papers. The TV Program will demonstrated the special films about “Invisible Enemy” devoted to the Fifth-Anniversary of Tajik Mine Action Centre in national language.

The Fourth International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action in Tajikistan will be observed at UNDP/Tajikistan, representatives of government institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
