Government Official Meeting

Meeting of the Commission on Implementation International Humanitarian Law (CIIHL) under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan chaired by Mr. Khudoyorov Bakhtiyor Tabarovich, Deputy Head of the CIIHL was held on March 4, 2009 in the Office of the President. 

Tajikistan Mine Action Centre Project Manager Mr. Rajabov Jonmahmad Shahrifovich presented results of the implementation mine action in 2008, and forecast for mine action for 2009.

The Extension Application for the de-mining activities to be implemented due to the Article 5 of the Ottawa Convention has been edited and is on the stage of discussion. According to the above Application 10 years, are required to complete de-mining activities in the Republic of Tajikistan, so they will be finished by 2019. That important extension document was approved by the Government Commission and recommended for the consideration of the member countries of the Ottawa Convention.

Members of the Commission and representatives of other partner ministers and agencies, United Development Program, OSCE, ICRC and NGO “Harmony of the World” attended the meeting. 

Commission on Implementation International Humanitarian Law has approved following documents presented during the meeting:

1.   Annual Report on Mine Action for 2008.

2.   Annual Plan on Mine Action for 2009.

3.   Request for extension of deadline for completion  destruction of anti-personnel mines in mined areas, in accordance with the Article 5, paragraph 1 of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer or Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction.
