Tajikistan Mine Action Centre Staff Meeting with high representative of UNDP Country Director Mr. Rastislav Vrbensky

 

has been held on 22 January 2009, 10:00-12:00 at TMAC office, 15 Mahmadali Kurbonov Street.

The head of Tajik Mine Action Center (TMAC) presented the Program activities and the request to extent implementation of Mine Action Program in the context of implementation responsibilities on Ottawa Convention. The Country Director highly appreciated progress activity implemented in 2008 and thanked TMAC staff and partners Swiss Foundation for Demining for their hard and effective work on mine clearance, victim assistance, advocacy and mine risk education in 22 districts of the Republic of Tajikistan. He pointed out the high level of collaboration with significant partners and ministries in the framework of Mine Action Program. The meeting with the UNDP Country Director and staff of TMAC provided environment to have better understanding of major issues concerning to the achievements of goals and objectives for the period of 2009.

Mr. Rastislav Vrbensky mentioned as well the evaluation carried out by the External Evaluator, Mr. Robert Keelley. Country Director presented recommendations given by Mr.Robert Keelley and considered them as strategic direction towards activities to be undertaken in 2009. He supported TMAC staff members’ recommendations given for the evaluation and underlined these recommendations for further development of the TMAC capacity building, five pillars of Mine Action Program.

Following main issues have been discussed:

·        Integrated Small Arms Light Weapons in MRE

·        Cooperation with the partners

·        Access to mine Detecting Machine

·        Advancing Resource Mobilization with TMAC

·        Involvement of fundraising

 

The meeting was held in collaborative and supportive atmosphere with the hope that further actions will be highly considered by the UNDP Mine Action Program in Tajikistan.
