Tajikistan Mine Action Centre Staff Meeting with High Representative of UNDP Country Director Mr. Rastislav Vrbensky

will be held in January 22, 2009, 10:00-12:00 at TMAC office, 15 Mahmadali Kurbonov Street

Tajikistan Mine Action Center will organize high official meeting with the UNDP Country Director to highlight actions to be undertaken within 2009. This meeting will enable Tajikistan Mine Action Centre (TMAC) to consider further development of its national capacity in planning, coordinating, managing and implementing all mine action activities in the country, including community level risk education campaigns, area surveys, data collection and recording, task prioritisation, marking, mine/UXO clearance, victims data collection, and coordinating with other partners, who provide operational support to mine clearance and associated activities.

The first main issue to be considered at the meeting is Tajikistan Mine Action Programme activities and Extension request. This request comes out from the Extension of the Article Five of the 1997 Ottawa Convention. If the extension period is prolonged, then Tajikistan will have the opportunity to clear all mine fields and build sustainable capacity as a residual body for addressing issues of open-ended nature of the landmine/UXO and cluster bombs contamination.

Then the floor will be given to the presentation Questions/Answers.

Another issue will be dedicated to the recommendations given by the External Evaluator regarding plans for the future and resource mobilization.

The feedback will be highlighted in the TMAC Website upon the completion of the meeting.
